MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III said the Filipino people will have a better health service after the Department of Health earned a certification from the International Organization for Standardization Wednesday, the Presidential Communication Operations Office reported.
Aquino said at the DOH-wide ISO 9001:2008 certification ceremony at the Malacañang that the conferment is another concrete sign of the government’s positive transformation during his administration.
“What does an ISO certification mean to the ordinary Filipino? Simple, this reform will ensure faster, more efficient health services for our people.” Aquino said. “The stricter standards will improve our processes involving documentation, planning, monitoring and feedback in rendering quality services to our people.”
In July 2012, the DOH’s Quality Management System was awarded ISO 9001:2008 Certification, which covered 17 offices and bureaus at the Department and two centers for health development.
The new expanded certification will include the Food and Drug Administration and 32 other offices and bureaus, 14 centers for health development were also included.
With the conferment, the DOH became the first government agency under the executive branch to be awarded with an ISO 9001:2008 certificate, which “sets out the requirements of a quality management system.”
“All of these initiatives are centered on raising the standards of health care to our bosses, the Filipino people,” Aquino said.
“May this achievement inspire you to continue dedicating time and energy to improving your standards of service to our bosses.”
The President, however, asked the Health Department not to be content with its achievement, adding that it should continue its efforts to improve its service.
