WHEN supertyphoon Yolanda hit the country, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) did not hesitate to extend help to areas that were severely affected.
MCWD donated P50,000 to the Philippine Red Cross and another P50,000 to the Cebu City government to be used in the relief operations for the victims of typhoon.
The amount was taken from the budget for the company’s Christmas party as the management agreed to cancel the event this year.
MCWD also turned over relief items to the Red Cross.
Cyress Joan Catin of the Red Cross said MCWD’s donation will also benefit the victims of Yolanda in the north.
MCWD also provided water stations to the evacuation centers in barangays San Nicolas and San Roque in Cebu City for the evacuees who were brought from Leyte to Cebu.
After typhoon Yolanda devastated the Visayas, the MCWD immediately sent help to Bogo City.
A water truck that can carry 8,000 liters of water served hundreds of residents who suffered from lack of water supply because of a power blackout.
MCWD also sent four generator sets to Bogo Water District and these were installed in the pumping stations so operations could resume even without power.
MCWD also donated generator sets to the water districts in Talibon and Clarin, Bohol which were affected by the 7.2-magniture earthquake last October 15 and to Carigara Water District in Leyte and Daanbantayan Water District in northern Cebu which were badly hit by Yolanda.
A repair team as well as repair materials were also sent to Tacloban City to help in the rehabilitation of water lines there. Alum and chlorine were also sent to Tacloban to purify water.
