Karatekas from ASKS, ASK shine

Members of the Arnis-Shotukan Karate Society (ASKS) and the Advocacy in the Strengthening of Karatedo (ASK)  dominated the final day of action of the 3rd National/Invitational Open Karatedo Championships yesterday as they took home majority of the gold medals in the kata competition at the J Centre Mall’s Activity Center.
ASKS and ASK won  nine gold meals each in the kata competition of the two-day tournament even as competitions in the kumite category were still ongoing as of press time.
Leading the gold medal haul of ASKS were Marie Pauleen Cabrera, who topped the 6-Under Girls division; Niño Kime Avila, who ruled the same age group category; Rowena Kateleen Barredo, who reigned supreme in the 7 to 9 years old girls’ intermediate kata; and Precious Abigail Belicario, who topped the 7 to 9 years old girls’ advanced kata.
Also pocketing gold medals  for ASKS were Lance Jodiel Teopis (7 to 9 years old boys’ advanced kata), Mark Anthony Ricablanco (10-12 novice boys), Aubrey del Codilla (10-12 intermediate girls),  Ervie Christine Parinasan (13 to 15 girls novice) and the ASKS boys’ synchronized kata team.
The ASK team, on the other hand, got its gold medals from Divine Cuyos  (7 to 9 girls novice), Denzel Clyde Amora (10 to 12 boys intermediate), ER Khimlord Labura (10 to 12 boys advanced), Daniel Fernandez (13 to 15 boys intermediate), Archien Vender (13 to 15 girls advanced), Marjorie Villareal (senior girls) and ASK’s Synchronized kata girls team.
The other clubs that won two gold medals were the Labogon Karate Club, Japan Karate Association (JKA) and the Association for the Upliftment of Karatedo (AUK) while the Mandaue City Karate Club, University of the Visayas and University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) won one each. /correspondent Jade S.
