SRFC buries CIS in girls 18-U of Aboitiz football

Two former Philippine Youth Team members helped the San Roque Football Club (SRCF) score an easy 11-1 victory over the Cebu International School (CIS) in the girls under-18 division of the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

Mailyn Lozano and Marie Trebol contributed two goals each to lead SRFC’s girls squad over the determined and bigger CIS team.

Lozano scored in the 11th and 33rd minute while Trebol netted goals in the 40th and 42nd minute.

But it was teammate Itsuko Marie Bacatan who led the team with three goals at the 51st, 55th and 62nd minute.

Other scorers for SRFC were Carlene Librero (10th minute), Stephanie Ruete (36th minute) and Jhervene Saradaga (31st and 45th minute).

Scoring CIS’ lone point was Phoebe Smith at the 39th minute.

Meanwhile, Saint Theresa’s College (STC) blanked San Agustine International School Football Club (SAIS-FC), 2-0, in the same division.

In the boys under-18 division, the visiting Alcoy FC handed SAIS-FC its second loss, 4-1 while CIS’s 18-under boys squad made up for the loss of its girls’ team as it outplayed Saint John’s Seminary, 4-0. Leylam FC massacred University of San Carlos (USC), 10-0, in the other boys’ under-18 game.

Abellana National School Pomeroy led the winners in the boys’ 15-under as it annihilated Center for International Education (CIE), 5-0, for its first victory. Subangdaku FC followed suit with a 1-0 win over the Talisay Raskals while PAREF Springdale defeated arch rival Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), 2-1.

In the distaff side, STC grabbed its second win of the day in another division by blanking Bright Academy, 8-0, while Tabor Hill FC beat SHS-AdC, 3-0.

In the under-13 division, SHS-AdC a 6-0 win over Canduman FC while USC-BED routed Children’s Paradise Montessori School (CPMS), 16-0. Giuseppe FC also won over SAIS-FC, 4-1.

Winners in the 11-under category yesterday were Lahug FC Team B, which outgunned SAIF-FC, 5-0; SHS-AdC, which beat CPMS, 18-0; Giuseppe FC, which crushed MAD-FC, 14-0; SRFC, which Bright Minds in Action Learning Village (BMALV), 3-2; Dynamo FC, which won over SAIF-FC, 5-0; and the Canduman FC, which defeated CIS, 4-2.

The tournament continues with other age group games today at the same venue.
