MANILA, Philippines – The coming week will see generally fair weather in most parts of the country, but the state weather bureau is maintaining its forecast of one or two storms still striking the Philippines in December.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecast fair to cloudy skies over Metro Manila and the greater part of Luzon with no approaching tropical cyclone in the next few days.

But the tail-end of a cold front affecting Northern and Central Luzon will continue to bring light rains and isolated thunderstorms to Cagayan Valley, it said.

In spite of the good weather, Pagasa forecaster Joey Figuracion said the agency was maintaining its forecast of up to two tropical cyclones entering the Philippine area of responsibility this December.

“We still think that one or two storms are going to enter the country this year,” he said.

But there have been Decembers when no storm arrived in the country at all, such as in the years 2010, 2007 and 2002, Figuracion said.
