SMART Communications Inc. lent its support to the 18th National Youth Congress of the Philippine Red Cross held in Lapu-Lapu City recently with the theme “Stronger Red Cross Youth for Stronger Philippine Red Cross.”
The youth congress was organized by the Philippine Red Cross National Youth Council, in cooperation with the Volunteer Services Department. It was held at the Crown Regency Suites and Residences in Lapu-Lapu City.
At least 500 youth leaders from the different Red Cross chapters nationwide convened for the biennial event to discuss various youth programs and concerns through plenary and commission sessions.
“The national congress was organized not only to unite the young people of the Philippine Red Cross but also to serve as a venue for our voices to be heard,” said Gov. Allan Claveria, Red Cross National Youth Council president.
Smart provided connectivity and live streaming of the three-day event, LED screen and raffle items. It also set up a promotional booth where participants take and upload images using smartphones as part of the Red Cross’ social networking advocacy for service delivery.
“Red Cross is one of our long-time institutional partners in disaster and emergency response. We are happy to help empower the youth to be effective not only as responders during disasters and emergency situations but also as responsible citizens of the country,” said Smart Public Affairs head Ramon Isberto.
