The Philippine Atmospheric, Geographical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) was established on Dec. 8, 1972 through Presidential Decree No. 78 to replace the old Weather Bureau. The agency was entrusted to provide environmental protection and utilize scientific knowledge as an effective instrument to ensure the safety, wellbeing and economic security of all people and for the promotion of national progress.
