Iloilo broadcaster wounded in gun attack
ILOILO CITY—Unidentified gunmen shot and wounded a broadcaster in front of his house in Iloilo City late Tuesday evening.
Jonavin “Jhey-R” Villalba, 43, a reporter of radio station dyOK Aksyon Radyo Iloilo, was hit on the right ankle and a toe, according to Senior Superintendent Ruperto Floro, Iloilo City police chief.
He was taken to the Iloilo Mission Hospital where he was reported in stable condition.
Two unidentified men on on a black motorcycle shot Villalba past 11 p.m. as he was opening the gate of his house in Barangay Cuartero in Iloilo’s Jaro District, according to initial police investigation. The men wore jackets and helmets.
Investigators recovered nine empty shells fired from a 9-millimeter firearm at the crime scene.
Police are still trying to determine the motive for the attack and the identities of the assailants.
