A POLICEMAN fatally shot a man who have reportedly gone berserk after days of not having enough food to eat while working in a farm in barangay Guba, Cebu City.
The victim, Johnry Fermin, a native of Bacolod City, was reportedly armed with an Armalite rifle. SPO1 Rolando Tabal, a member of Cebu City Public Safety Company and assigned at a detachment in the barangay, responded to an armed person alarm yesterday morning.
He introduced himself as a policeman, but Fermin allegedly fired at him. Fortunately, Tabal was able to take cover behind a parked motorcycle. He fired back and hit Fermin in different parts of the body.
SPO1 Ruth Violango said Fermin worked for a breeding farm of fighting cocks owned by Victor Siera. He reportedly started to show an unusual behavior as he did not have enough food for four days. “Its been four days that they have not properly eaten because their boss did not deliver their supply of rice,” Violango said.
Robin Tautho, 18, Fermin’s fellow worker, also confirmed Violango’s statements that they have not received their supply of rice. Tautho added that last Monday, Fermin also went wild and threatened to harm them. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
