On Dec. 10, 1865, Ateneo Municipal de Manila was established by Jesuits to replace the Escuela Municipal. It was originally located at Intramuros before moving to Padre Faura after a fire. Led by Fr. William Masterson S.J., Ateneo moved to its current campus at Loyola Heights in Quezon City in 1952. It became a university on Dec. 11, 1959, its centennial year.—Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
