MANILA, Philippines–Front-line police units in Eastern Visayas who were affected by the onslaught of Supertyphoon Yolanda are set to receive donated equipment to restore their capability of performing their duties.
In a simple ceremony at Camp Crame, Deputy PNP Chief for Operations, Police Deputy Director General Felipe Rojas Jr., formally accepted 20 motorcycles, 18 power generator sets, 100 office computer sets, 80 chest drawers, 100 tables and 400 chairs from PNP Foundation Inc. (PNPFI) through its Vice-Chairperson Teresita Ang-See.
“This generous donation of PNPFI will surely go a long way in restoring the capability of local police units to continue performing the duty to serve and protect the people,” PNP chief, Director General Alan Purisima said.
He said he has instructed the immediate and equitable distribution of the equipment to police units in Leyte and Samar provinces that were severely affected by Yolanda.
Purisima instructed Police Director Gil Hitosis, PNP Director for Logistics, to ensure immediate and equitable distribution of the donated equipment to PNP units in Leyte and Samar provinces that were severely affected by the typhoon.
Hitosis said a distribution plan has been prepared in coordination with Police Regional Office 8 officials under Chief Superintendent Henry Losañes.
The PNP Foundation Inc. was established in 2000 by private citizens inspired by similar organizations in other countries such as the New York City Police Foundation and the National Crime Prevention Council in Singapore that strongly activate the role of civil society in the prevention of crime.
The PNP Foundation has since provided the PNP with logistics support mostly for mobility, communication and investigation.
