Quake shakes near General Santos City
MANILA, Philippines—A 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck off the southern Philippine island of Mindanao early Tuesday, seismologists said, with no immediate reports of damage.
The quake hit at 3:13 a.m. (1913 GMT Monday) some 160 kilometers (100 miles) east-southeast of the city of General Santos at a depth of 35 kilometers, the US Geological Survey said.
The Philippines is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, where frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes take place.
