Thai anti-government protesters gather with national flags by the government house as they make their way on the street in a march in Bangkok, Thailand Monday, Dec. 9, 2013. Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra announced Monday she will dissolve the lower house of Parliament and call elections in an attempt to calm the country’s deepening political crisis. The surprise move came as 100,000 protesters vowing to overthrow her government marched through the streets of Bangkok for a “final showdown.” AP

BANGKOK – Around 100,000 people took to the streets of the Thai capital on Monday seeking to topple the government, police estimated, despite the prime minister’s decision to call snap elections.

“Turnout at 10.30 am (0330 GMT) is estimated at 100,000,” said a police official at the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order, which was set up to deal with the unrest.
