CIM alumna gets award

DR. Milagros Abesamis Chan, a magna cum laude graduate of the CIM College of Medicine Class 1963, is this year’s Most Outstanding CIM Alumnus awardee (MOCA).

This is an annual award given to an alumnus of CIM in recognition of his/her achievements in the field of medicine.

The awarding ceremony will take place today as part of the week-long celebration of CIM’s 56th founding anniversary.

Dr. Chan is a fellow of the following: American College of OB Gyne, Philippine Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American College of Surgery, Philippine College of Surgery, Philippine Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery.

An acknowledged authority, she has contributed chapters to the Philippine textbook of OB Gyne and the Philippine Journal of OB Gyne. Dr. Chan has also served as professor and chairman of the Cebu Doctors’ College of Medicine, Chong Hua Hospital and Board of Examiner of the Philippine Board of OB Gyne.

Currently, she is a professor in OB Gyne, Cebu Doctors University Hospital; consultant, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC); Board member of the Cebu Maternity Hospital.

Dr. Chan is married to Dr. Cesar Chan, a surgeon. They have three children: Dr. Cynthia Chan-Hortelano, Dr. Cesar Chan, Jr. and Dr. Marinda Chan-Demeterio.
