4.4 quake hits off Tawi-Tawi

MANILA, Philippines—A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck off Tawi-Tawi at 2:06 a.m. Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

There were no reports of damage or casualty from the tectonic quake that occurred in Celebes  Sea. It was centered about 337 kilometers southeast of South Ubian town at a depth of 549 kilometers.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
