MILF men abduct Marawi City police chief—report

MANILA, Philippines–At least 40 suspected members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front abducted early Friday the police chief of Marawi City, reports reaching the Philippine National Police said.

Police Superintendent Christopher Panapan was kidnapped by gunmen after they shot dead Panapan’s brother-in-law around 12:10 a.m., the reports said.

The suspected MILF abductors were said to be under Abdurahman Macapaar, also known as Commander Bravo, an MILF commander based in Nusa village in Wato, Balindong municipality in Lanao del Sur.

The reports said that the 40 MILF members “harassed” the Marawi City Police Station to rescue two detained MILF men arrested last week by the police.

Using a boat, the suspects brought their victim to Wato, Balindong municipality.
