MANILA, Philippines—The Social Security System (SSS) on Thursday warned business establishments on fake pension checks circulating in the country.
“There is a case of allegedly forfeited check reported to our office where the issuing bank is Landbank of the Philippines,” said SSS Vice President for Public Affairs Marisu Bugante in interview with Inquirer Radio 990AM anchors.
Bugante said that the only authorized issuing bank of SSS is the Philippine National Bank (PNB) and not Landbank or any other commercial banks as manifested in the fake check reported to them.
“If the issuing bank is not PNB, then it is not authentic,” Bugante said.
She further explained that the only signatory in the check should be the SSS president.
Business establishments, according to Bugante, should look closely into this matter to avoid being victimized by scammers.
Bugante announced that the December and the 13th month-pension of pensioners were already released.
