Groups may hold Christmas party with evacuees

CEBU CITY’s Social Welfare and Services Department welcomes people and groups who want to hold their Christmas parties with the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in evacuation centers in the city.

“There are private organizations and groups that expressed interest in holding their Christmas party with the IDPs, so why not?” said DSWS chief Ester Concha.

Groups just need to coordinate with the DSWS and the barangay where the evacuation center belongs.

Those interested may contact the assigned social worker in each barangay to schedule their party.

For barangay Tinago, they can contact Virgie through (0916) 9873487, Guadalupe through Mila at (0933) 2250926 and Cogon Ramos at 2665565.

The Tinago, Guadalupe and Cogon Ramos sports complexes are housing around 300 evacuees.

The DSWD-7 has already turned over the supervision of the centers to the DSWS.

Tinago barangay captain Joel Garganera said they always welcome typhoon victims who need assistance even if they are not staying in the center.

“There are some who live with their relatives but still ask food ration from us. We will still give them because there is a lot of help from the private sector,” he said. /Correspondent jose santino s. bunachita
