MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III has tapped Finance Undersecretary John “Sunny” Sevilla to be the officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Customs.
A statement posted Wednesday on the official website of the Executive department of the government (gov.ph) said that Sevilla would temporarily step down from his position of undersecretary for corporate affairs and privatization at the Department of Finance, a position he held since 2010.
Prior to his stint at the DOF, Sevilla had worked as an executive director at the investment bank Goldman Sachs, and had also covered the Philippines as an associate director and sovereign rater for credit rating agency Standard and Poor’s.
Sevilla had also served as chief operating officer of Synergeia foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of public education in the country.
Sevilla graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Economics and Government, and obtained a master’s degree in Public Affairs from Princeton University.
Sevilla will take over the post vacated by Ruffy Biazon who resigned after the National Bureau of Investigation filed a case for graft and malversation of public funds against him in connection with the alleged misuse of the pork barrel funds while he was still a lawmaker of Muntinlupa.
