THE University of Cebu (UC)-manned Team Cebu City will start its defense of its title in the Philippine Open and Inter-Scholasticas Table Tennis Championships at the Buddha Care Academy in Quezon City tomorrow.
Team Cebu City, headed by UC table tennis head coach Jessica Honoridez, is manned by 14 players competing in the secondary and elementary divisions.
Leading the list of players are UC’s Danel Jay and Elona Dane Tormis, who will be joined by their younger sibling Eljy Dan Tormis of the Cebu City Central Elementary School. They will be joined by UC’s Jennifer Jacalan, Jerny Kaye Pepito, Diana Oliverio, Athena Comaingking, Lemuel Agbon, Val Stephen Jaca and University of San Carlos’ (USC) Dominic and Henz Lucero. Cebu City Central Elementary School’s Mikaela Binawanao and Kent Edwin Abellanosa completes the Team Cebu City.
According to Honoridez, her players are confident of winning the crown since they are fresh from a successful campaign in the recent National Milo Little Olympics here in Cebu City last weekend.
The team left Cebu City yesterday and is expected to arrive in Manila today. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
