TEAM Visayas underscored its strength in the ballgames with emphatic wins in volleyball and lawn tennis at yesterday’s start of the 5th Milo Little Olympics National Finals.
At the Aznar Coliseum, Team Visayas’ secondary boys spikers represented by the University of San Carlos-Basic Education System (USC-BED), completed their two-game romp by defeating National Capital Region (NCR) and Luzon.
The Bisdaks routed NCR, 25-20, 25-16, before surviving a three-set scare from Luzon, 25-15, 16-25, 25-13.
The Bisdaks’ secondary girls spikers composed of players from Pajo National High School, also logged twin victories by trouncing Mindanao, 25-16, 25-10 and Luzon, 27-25, 25-23.
The region’s elementary belles from Catmon Integrated School also booked two easy wins over Mindanao, 25-8, 25-19 and arch nemesis NCR, 25-7, 25-9 but the elementary boys went down to Team Luzon, 15-25, 21-25 beating crushing Mindanao, 25-17, 25-23.
LAWN TENNIS
In lawn tennis, Team Visayas will go for the secondary girls gold medal today after B.R.I.G.H.T. Academy’s Jana Pages scored two lopsided wins yesterday.
Pages first crushed her foe from NCR, 8-1 before blanking her Team Luzon rival, 8-0 at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club’s tennis courts in Pardo, Cebu.
Earlier, Team Visayas also logged victories over NCR and Team Luzon in the secondary boys division.
TAEKWONDO
Team Visayas ruled the elementary girls taekwondo event worth 15 points at the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) gym followed by Mindanao with 10 points, Luzon with 7 ponts and NCR with 4 points.
However, the Bisdaks fell to 4th overall in the boys division worth 4 points. Luzon bagged the boys title (15 pts) followed by Mindanao (10) and NCR (7). /Correspondent Jade S. Violeta
