Manila donates P16M to ‘Yolanda’-hit areas

A total of P16 million will be donated by the city government of Manila to support relief efforts and disaster- and risk-reduction work in communities in Central Visayas that were badly hit by Supertyphoon “Yolanda.”

In separate resolutions, the city council authorized Mayor Joseph Estrada to make the following donations in the name of the city government: P10 million for Tacloban City, P5 million for the municipality of Javier in Leyte province and P1 million for the municipality of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

Yolanda’s strength “caught us all by surprise that a day after the storm’s fury many communities were virtually leveled with unimaginable destruction and loss of lives and property,” one resolution said.

As the nation’s capital, the City of Manila must adopt the devastated communities by sending aid until they could rise again, it added. Erika Sauler
