PDEA arrests murder suspect in Talisay

A man wanted for murder in 2006 was arrested by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) during a surveillance in barangay Lagtang, Talisay City, last Sunday.

Wilbur Bas, 25, was arrested by PDEA Regional Director Levi Ortiz.

Ortiz said they were conducting a surveillance on Bas at around 4 p.m. on his involvement in the illegal drug trade but were unable to penetrate the area since the suspect;s supporters alerted him.

While in the area, a concerned citizen tipped off the team that Bas had a pending warrant of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Gilbert Moises of Branch 18 for the murder of Sam Alferex in 2006 in Talisay City.

Ortiz said they immediately coordinated with the police to secure the warrant and arrested Bas.

In an interview, Bas admitted killing Alferez. He said four months before the incident, the victim hit his car with a stone and broke the windshield.

Bas said he shot Alferez at the Tabunok public market with a .38 revolver and went into hiding in Pagadian.

He returned to Talisay three years ago and was involved in the illegal drug trade in Lagtang. He said his supplier was a certain Franz.

PDEA agents are now conducting a follow-up on Bas’ source of illegal drugs./Correspondent chito aragon
