Rape charges

A WOMAN from Balamban town, west Cebu, filed rape charges against a 47-year-old man yesterday.

Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Marlon Atillo gave Teofisto Algabre seven days to submit his counter-affidavit.

Algabre denied raping the victim and claimed he was the victim’s boyfriend for a month.

Lapu stabbing

A 31-YEAR OLD MAN was wounded after he was stabbed by his drinking buddy when he refused to buy more liquor last Sunday in barangay Catarman, Cordova town.

Reden Degamo, 31, was rushed to a Lapu-Lapu City hospital after Jervie Pinote  stabbed him in the back using a long bolo.

Police initial investigation revealed that the suspect demanded that the victim buy more drinks but they ended their drinking after the victim said he was already out of cash.

The suspect, who fled after the incident, went home but came back and stabbed the victim who was bound for home./NORMAN V. MENDOZA

Drug arrest

A MAN was arrested after police seized 70 packs of suspected shabu and an unlicensed gun in his home in Medellin town, north Cebu, last Saturday.

William Mercader admitted this was the second time that he was arrested for drug charges. He said it was the only means for him to sustain his family’s needs.

Armed with an arrest warrant issued by RTC Judge Enriqueta Belarmino of Branch 57,  a team  searched Mercader’s house and recovered at least 70 packs of suspected shabu, a .357 revolver and several ammunition./Chito O. Aragon

Basak-Pardo shooting

A member of the Barangay Action Peace Keeping Force was shot dead in a checkpoint they were conducting last Sunday  in barangay Basak-Pardo, Cebu City.

Rogelio Yray was shot in the head.

Police initial investigation revealed  that Yray had a heated altercation with habal-habal driver Noel Cañeda after he flagged him down in a checkpoint operation in sitio Laguna.

Police said  they checked Cañeda and let him go.

He later came back armed with one .38 revolver, shot Yray in the head and tried to escape.

He was pursued and was cornered in an interior portion. Policemen introduced themselves but he still aimed his handgun to the police.
