SRP tent city ready for evacuees next week

The first phase of the tent city for supertyphoon Yolanda evacuees in the South Road Properties (SRP) will be ready for occupancy by next week.
Yesterday afternoon, a 30-man team from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) inspected the 13,000 square meter area at the SRP.
The SRP Management Office is conducting ongoing filling, compacting and leveling of soil in the area which is expected to be completed this weekend.
The soil will be covered with gravel to prevent it from turning into mud when it rains. Common toilets and kitchen areas are also being built.
“There are a total of 50 family tents that will be used for the first phase of the project.
“This will be a test drive if we still need to put up the remaining two more phases,” said Vic Jay Gonzal, officer in charge of the Cebu Chapter of the PRC.
The PRC has promised to give away 150 tents. Each tent is  5.5 meters by 4.2 meters and can house one family.
Gonzal said they are in coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in screening beneficiaries of the tents.
He said they are prioritizing those who still have nowhere else to go.
The tents will remain for six months to one year or until the time that the evacuees’ home provinces will be stable.
The Red Cross will also provide psycho-social support and debriefing to  survivors living in the tent city.
