THE Mandaue City Library is holding story telling sessions with adult and children survivors of the Oct. 15 earthquake and the Nov. 8 supertyphoon to ease the stress and trauma they experienced.
Mandaue City Public Library chief Angie Cagatulia said the story-telling sessions will serve as stress-debriefing for these victims of natural calamities.
They held their first story-telling session with children victims yesterday.
“Malingaw sila sa storya unya makalimot sila sa nahitabo sa ilaha (They will be entertained and they will forget what happened to them). Even just looking at the books could provide stress relief to them,” Cagatulia said.
The storytelling sessions can also be participated in by the children’s parents and old folk staying in the city’s designated evacuation centers.
Cagatulia said the story-telling sessions are done in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd).
There are 14,000 books and 20 computer units in the Mandaue City Library which can accommodate 70 people.
Cagatulia said their office also received book donations from Zonta Club of Cebu like Zoology, Biology Sciences and History Books.
She said the story-telling sessions coincide with this month’s annual observance of the National Book Month.
Cagatulia said they invited day care center personnel to read stories for their wards and the displaced children. Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
