MANILA, Philippines—Temporary shelters are now being prepared for residents of Tacloban City and Samar who were displaced by Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (Haiyan) earlier this month, a Department of Public Works and Highways official said.
In an interview over Inquirer Radio 990AM, DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said a total of 136 bunkhouses were currently being constructed in different areas in Tacloban and Samar.
Authorities continue to evaluate the other areas where relocation sites need to be built for families who lost their homes in the aftermath of the strong typhoon that hit the Visayas last
Asked about the “no build zone” policy along shorelines, Singson said there is an existing law banning the construction of residential and commercial establishments within 40 meters from the shoreline.
“Enforcement na lang ang kulang diyan ng local government units (It’s just enforcement of the law that is lacking with the local government units),” Singson said.
