Today, September 6, is the 95th birth anniversary of the late fictionist and poet Francisco Arcellana. Born in Sta. Cruz, Manila, he is described as one of the forerunners of the modern Filipino short story in English. Among his most famous stories are “The Flowers of May” and “Divide by Two.” Arcellana was declared National Artist for Literature in 1990.
