MANILA, Philippines—McDonald’s, through its charity of choice, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), activated its disaster and relief operations program, Bigay Tulong for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
Headed by McDonald’s Philippines chairman and owner George T. Yang, McDonald’s will donate P30 million to aid communities affected by the recent calamity.
To further support its relief efforts, McDonald’s recently opened the RMHC Bigay Tulong Command Center to be the central hub of accepting donations and re-packing of beddings, blankets, clothes, rice, bottled water, canned goods, biscuits, toiletries, medicines and toys for the typhoon victims.
These relief packs will be distributed in Tacloban, Dulag, Guiuan, Ormoc, Iloilo and Roxas, with McDonald’s ensuring delivery and direct distribution of relief packs to the families.
Food donations have also been given to affected families through government and media partners, and more than 200 McDonald’s employee volunteers have been mobilized to join re-packing in ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Furthermore, close to 6,000 meals have been provided by McDonald’s to volunteers working in different relief centers, and all McDonald’s stores nationwide are still accepting in-kind donations from customers until November 30.
McDonald’s President & CEO Kenneth Yang shares, “In the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda, we saw more than just one nation uniting, but a global community working towards one goal—aiding millions of Filipinos ravaged from the typhoon.
From our own McDonald’s family, we have harnessed the McDonald’s global system who has generously donated financial aid enabling us to provide immediate relief and work towards helping rebuild affected areas. Truly no amount of help is too small or too big to make a difference.”
The RMHC Bigay Tulong Command Center is also open to receiving in-kind donations, which McDonald’s will include in their delivery and distribution of relief packs.
RMHC Bigay Tulong Command Center is located at 9590 Bagtikan Corner Kamagong Sts,. Makati City, and is open daily from 8AM to 10PM.
