Child as grenade goes off in alley

/ 03:18 AM November 26, 2013

A one-year-old child was hurt after an explosive device went off at an alley in Mandaluyong City on Sunday night.

Senior Insp. Melany Martirez, chief of the city police Women’s and Children’s Protection Desk, said the boy was at the second floor of a house on Interior Ilaya Street when the explosion took place at 8:45 p.m.

The victim was with his mother, Lelaine Aquino, who was not hurt. A police report said the boy suffered slight injuries.

Investigators have yet to determine what exactly happened in the area although members of the police Explosives and Ordnance Division said they found parts of a hand grenade at the scene. Last August, a grenade also went off in the area followed by a shooting incident. Both are still under investigation.—Kristine Felisse Mangunay
