Blast damages hotel in Iloilo City; no one hurt

ILOILO CITY, Philippines—Two unidentified persons lobbed a grenade at a newly constructed hotel in this city early Monday, the police said.

There were no casualties in the still unoccupied Bali Hotel but the explosion damaged the building, Senior Supt. Marietto Valerio, Iloilo City police director, told the INQUIRER in a telephone interview on Monday.

Valerio said three security guards inside the building noticed a motorcycle passing the hotel along the corner of Duran and Gen. Hughes streets shortly before they heard an explosion around 4 a.m.

The blast, around two meters from the street, shattered glass panels and parts of the building’s stairs. Valerio said investigators were still determining the identity of the assailants and the motive behind the attack.
