2 dead in QC jeepney robbery
Two men were killed in what police said was a shootout after they allegedly robbed passengers of a jeepney plying Quezon Avenue Friday night.
The slain men remained unidentified but they were recognized by the passengers as part of the trio who earlier boarded the jeepney driven by Bobbit Caseres, 29, at the Welcome rotunda and declared a holdup, according to the Quezon City Police District.
A mobile patrol team from the QCPD’s Galas station was alerted to the robbery after the trio got off with the passengers’ belongings at the corner of Quezon Avenue and D. Tuazon Street. PO2 Hermogenes Capili said the men were armed with .38-caliber revolvers and fired back when the QCPD team caught up with them not far from where they got off.
Two of them were killed in the ensuing exchange of gunfire, while the third escaped. Recovered from the slain men were three bags, a wallet and a cell phone—items taken from the jeepney passengers. Julie M. Aurelio
