Sing N Joy choir tilt, workshop set

Renowned conductors Kirby Shaw of the United States and Jonathan Velasco of the Philippines lead the international jury for Sing N Joy Manila 2013, to be held at Aliw and Star Theaters from December 11 to 14 under the aegis of Manila Broadcasting Co., Interkultur Germany and the Philippine Choral Directors Association.

Joining them are Chau Anh Dang of Vietnam, Tommyanto Kandisaputra of Indonesia, Ko Moe Naing of Myanmar, and Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng also from the Philippines. Shaw and Velasco will also conduct workshops on the mornings of Dec. 12 and 13, for which interested choirs may register via www.interkultur.com.

A total of 45 choirs from the Southeast Asian region will be competing in the mixed chorus, musica sacra, folkloric, pop-jazz, gospel-spiritual and youth categories of Sing N Joy Manila, which will also provide participants with ratings in the international choral community.

The grand prize winner gets $5,000, apart from gold, silver and bronze certificates to be awarded in the different categories. Sing N Joy Manila 2013 is copresented by Star City and Globe Telecom, with support from Alaska, 7-11, Alpen Libe, M. Lhuillier, Coca Cola, and the Department of Tourism.
