‘World class’ terminal opens in Pier 1

The “world-class” passenger terminal of Cebu City’s Pier 1 opened last Thursday.

The passengers, though, will have to shell out more than double the amount for the use of the terminal which is now P25 from the previous P10.

“Our pre-departure area is fully airconditioned and fully covered unlike before. It has met world class standards,” said the Cebu Ports Authority media liaison officer Karen Gonzales.

Senior citizens and children below 12 years old can enter the facility for free.

Engr. Edwin Cabaron, Passenger Terminal 1 operations officer, said the new terminal building of Pier 1 and its modern facilities are comparable to an international airport as what the passengers told him.

Cabaron believes the new facilities can boost tourism in Cebu and other regions.

The passenger terminal 1 has two components, the passenger terminal building worth P50,592,629.96 and the under deck repair, including the roadways of the sides of the terminal building, worth P99,082,082.90.

Total cost of the developments at the terminal was P149,674,712.66, funded solely by the CPA.
