Inside job eyed in bank burglary

A BANK in Carmen town, northern Cebu lost P300,000 cash in a burglary suspected by police as an inside job.

Initial investigation showed there were no signs of forced entry into Banco de Katipunan Foundation Inc. in barangay Dawis Norte, said Supt. Alvin Albio, chief of the Carmen Police Station.

The cash was kept in a vault. A .38 revolver was also taken away.

The burglary was reported to the police by bank manager Alfie Espina Maribao around 8 a.m. Thursday.

Espina said the vault had been emptied when they arrived for work.

Police said the bank was also ransacked in August last year. Police said the management did not pursue investigation since only P9,280 cash was taken.

The bank had a security guard but would go home after business hours.

Albio said he advised the bank manager to have the workers undergo a polygraph test which could help in the investigation.

Albio said he noted security lapses. Maribao also told investigators that he lost the key of the bank, Albio said./CORRESPONDENT CHRISTINE EMILY L. PANTALEON
