PESHAWAR, Pakistan—Pakistani officials say a suspected U.S. drone strike on an Islamic seminary in northwest Pakistan has killed six people.

Police officer Fareedullah and intelligence officials say the attack occurred early Thursday morning in Hangu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

It is one of the first drone attacks to occur outside Pakistan’s remote tribal region and could increase tension between Islamabad and Washington.

The intelligence officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

Fareedullah, who only goes by one name, says police have arrived at the scene of the attack in the Tall area of Hangu. The six bodies were burned beyond recognition.
