RESIDENTS of Madridejos town are looking for ways to rebuild their homes that were destroyed by supertyphoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
One of them is Francisca Boltron 64, of barangay Pili.
“Ganahan jud ko mag paayo sa among balay pero wala man koy kwarta kay mismo akong panginabuhi naundang sad (I really wanted to start rebuilding our house but I don’t have money, even my livelihood has stopped,” she said.
“Dili ko kabaligya og kahoy karon kay ang mga tawo walay kwarta unya wa say ikaluto ang mga tawo,” she added.
(I cannot sell firewood because people don’t have money and most households also do not have anything to cook)
She now lives in a makeshift shelter with sacks serving as wall and roof. Debris are all over her place.
She said she doesn’t want to stay in the evacuation center since it is too crowded.
Power has yet to be restored in most places in northern Cebu. A generator set provides limited power to the town hall.
Boltron said so far she received family food pack twice already, but the supply is hardly enough for her and her family of three.
Drinking water is also a problem she added.
Madridejos Mayor Sally Salvador dela Fuente told CDN that they are now on the third wave of sending relief goods to the 14 barangays of town.
He said the town also received relief assistance from private groups.
Madridejos is one of the towns that situated in Bantayan Island.
Aileen Lariba, information officer of the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development said 97 percent of houses in Madredijos were damaged, affecting 6,480 families. /Michelle Joy L. Padayhag, Correspondent
