Fire destroys 38 homes in Cebu City

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Fire broke out in Barangay (village) Basak San Nicolas, this city on Monday afternoon, injuring two persons and destroying 38 houses, said arson investigator Danny Relatado of the Cebu City Fire Department.
Relatado identified the injured as Philip Abellanosa, who sustained burns on his left foot, and Jeffrey Ortiz, who had minor burns on both hands.
The fire broke out at 1:43 p.m. in Sitio (sub-village) San Roque and Sitio Toong, both in Barangay San Nicolas.
The fire reportedly started at the house owned by Rosalie Gerat but Relatado said they had yet to determine the cause of the fire.
Relatado estimated the damage to reach P500,000.
Article continues after this advertisementThe fire trucks had difficulty in accessing the fire scene, which was around 700 meters from the main road, he added.
Firemen had to use around 10 hoses connected to each other to put out the fire, he said.
