For the third straight day, a fire broke out and killed a woman in Quezon City.
The last blaze engulfed a house in Sitio Militar Ibaba, Barangay Bahay Toro early Saturday, a day after another part of the village went up in flames.
The victim was identified as Virgie Lasponia, 33, who lived with her two children and a female partner. The children, aged 8 and 10, suffered burns in the face, hands and feet as they escaped from the burning house.
The city’s deputy fire marshal, Supt. Samuel Tadeo, noted that the victim did not appear to have any burns when found in the bedroom. An autopsy was under way.
Lasponia was the third fatality in fires that had hit the city three days in a row. The previous fires were in Barangay Talipapa on Thursday night, and in the slum area straddling Bahay Toro and Baesa before dawn Friday. The victims of the first two fires were also women.
The fire on Saturday hit the Lasponia residence around 1 a.m. and was declared out 45 minutes later.
Tadeo noted that Lasponia’s live-in partner, Patty Bondoc, also escaped from the house, helped neighbors put the fire out, but could not be found in the area hours later.
The two children were treated for burns at Quezon City General Hospital and were later discharged.
