The “Strength and Conditioning Workshop” and the other programs of the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) have been set aside to give way to the ongoing relief efforts for the victims of the supertyphoon “Yolanda.”
CCSC chairman Edward Hayco said the agency’s staff together with members of Dancesports Team Cebu City are involved in the distribution of relief goods around the affected areas in the Visayas.
“Everything is called off because we are involved in relief goods packing and distribution,” Hayco said. “In our own little way, we already have provided relief goods to some 1,000 families.”
Hayco said the CCSC and DTCC are very busy with their relief efforts.
“We actually have a very unique way of helping. What we pack, we immediately deliver directly to the victims using the sports commission staff. It’s not much, but at least we were able to provide immediate relief,” Hayco said.
Because of what his staff and dancers have shown, Hayco said he feels so proud of what the group has accomplished.
“It’s important for Cebu to know what the young people are doing on their own initiative. I’m so proud of them, especially some who are very close to me as they’ve been losing sleep just to coordinate and bring the goods to the victims.”
As an example of that initiative, Hayco said one volunteer was able to solicit a van-load of water, 200 mats, almost a thousand packs of relief goods and 3,000 pairs of slippers
