MANILA, Philippines—One person was killed and two others were injured when fire gutted a residential block in Quezon City before dawn Friday.
Fire Superintendent Jesus Fernandez, Quezon City fire marshal, said Angelita Omedes was killed when fire gutted their house and that of roughly 150 others in Barangay (village) Baesa in Quezon City at 12:58 a.m.
He said the fire might have started at the four-story apartment of the Omedes family along Precious Street where around 10 families reside.
Fernandez said the Omedes family admitted that somebody who had cooked left the gas stove open.
Nonetheless, Ferdandez said they were also looking at the possibility of electrical overload as possible cause considering the number of families renting the place.
Two others, identified as Jose Capri and Maurillo Canseco, were, meanwhile, rushed to the hospital after sustaining burn injuries.
The fire reached Task Force Bravo before it was put out at 4:55 a.m., and destroyed roughly P3 million worth of properties.
Around 450 families were displaced, he added.
Meanwhile, at least three responding firemen were injured when their truck figured in an accident along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue.
Based on initial information, the fire truck allegedly went out of control after its driver
swerved along North Edsa area to avoid an overtaking vehicle that suddenly cut in the lane they were taking.
