Diamante Inter-towns, Cities chess set Dec. 21

THE first-ever Mayor Democrito “Aljun” Diamante Inter-Towns and Cities Chess Team Tournament 2013 will unfold on Dec. 21-22 at the Tuburan Town Plaza.
The tournament will feature some of the best wood pushers in Cebu vying for the big cash prizes at stake.

The winning team will take home P30,000 cash plus a trophy while the runner-up will pocket P20,000 and a trophy. The third placer on the other hand, will get P10,000 and a trophy while the fourth and fifth placers will each receive P6,000 and P4,000.

The top board winners on boards 1 and 2 will each receive P1,000 while boards 3 and 4 champions will get P750 each.

The tournament is open to all chess teams from the different towns and cities of Cebu but team members should present proof that they are voters of the town or city that they are representing.

However, organizers are allowing each team to import a player.

The tournament will adopt the five-round Swiss system format and will be governed by FIDE Rules.

Each round will have 30 minutes plus a five second increment to finish. Ties and draws will be broken by direct encounter, bucholz, medial bucholz and draw lots while board winners will be applied to determine the winning team.

Registration fee per team is pegged at P1,500.00.
