THE 3RD LEG of the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Lawn Tennis Association Visayas Junior Tennis Championships officially opened yesterday at the Montevista Tennis Association’s (Monta) tennis courts in Bacolod City.
A total of 125 netters participated in the Group 2 Philta event, which is still a part of the tournament that opened in Cebu City and held its second leg in typhoon-battered Iloilo City.
Gracing the opening ceremony yesterday were Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentebella, Philta Regional Vice-President for Bacolod City Fernando Arguelles along with the organizer and Philta Vice –President Juanito Cansino, Jr. and Philta Finance Cesar San Juan.
Right after the opening ceremony, official matches immediately started in the singles’ 10-Under Unisex category in the tourney that features 9 other singles age group categories.
The players who are participating in the tournament are coming from all over the Visayas region of Kalibo, Iloilo, Escalante, San Carlos, Dumaguete and Silay, while the most number of entries come from La Carlota City’s Roberto S. Benedicto Tennis Club headed by its Barangay Kagawad Socrates “Atet” Guba and host Bacolod City. /Correspondent Jade S. Violeta
