/ 03:58 AM September 04, 2011

The bloated body of a 20-year-old fruit vendor was fished out Saturday morning, more than 24 hours after he jumped into and frolicked in the waters of Manila Bay.

Jonald Villamar, of Happy Land, Barangay 105 Zone 8, in Tondo, allegedly jumped into the sea off the breakwater four times, resurfacing on his first three jumps,  but went missing after his fourth dive.

Police said that Villamar’s body was discovered floating on Manila Bay at around 10 a.m. Saturday by his neighbor.

Investigation showed that a day before the discovery, at around 3 a.m. Friday, Villamar and three other friends had gone on a drinking spree near the breakwater.

During their binge, police said, Villamar excused himself from his buddies and started diving into the sea apparently thinking the plunge would shake his drunkenness off.

Villamar resurfaced after the first three dives. But his friends got worried when he did not resurface after his fourth try. They immediately sought the help of barangay officials for the search and rescue.

But their search yielded no sign of Villamar until Saturday morning.
