THE Women in Literary Arts-Cebu Inc. (Wila) will launch a book of poetry “Travelbook” on Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. at the Handuraw Café on Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City.
This is the first poetry collection for Wila member Charmaine Carreon, who won second prize for English Poetry in the 2012 Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature for her poems in “The Yonic Lover.”
The winning poems are part of the “Travelbook.”
Veteran poet Merlie Alunan said “Carreon has found the secret lode that makes the simplest, homeliest words luminous…and is a master of the climactic, deftly cataloguing seemingly irrelevant details, until one comes upon the one detail that pulls everything together.”
Carreon, a faculty member of the University of the Philippines Cebu College, finished her masters in Creative Writing at UP Diliman.
During the launching, Carreon will entertain inquiries from the audience about her book.
The reading of original poems from Wila and The Really Bad Poets will follow.
The book is sold at P250. Carreon will be signing books after the launching.
