The University of Cebu (UC), University of San Carlos (USC) and University of the Visayas (UV) ruled their respective sports in yesterday’s action of the 23rd Cebu City Olympics at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) and in various venues around the city.
The UC Webmasters came out on top in the medal race of the athletics event in the secondary division as they plucked a total of 10 first place finishes with each first place finish worth seven points.
USC-Basic Education Department fought UC tooth-and-nail in secondary athletics as it registered six top finishes while UV was all by itself in dominating all levels of the gymnastics competition.
The UV Green Lancers plucked a total of 13 gold medals in the secondary division while its elementary division counterparts doled out a total of 14 gold in the boy’s and girl’s divisions.
In the elementary division wars, leading the medal harvest in athletics are the USC-BED, which collected a total of seven gold medals.
Leading the productive day for UV in the secondary division gymnastics events was Eunice Obag, who snagged four gold medals by finishing first in the rhythmic gymnastic’s rope event, hoop event, ribbon event and all-around.
Also garnering for UV gold medals in the secondary division are Janrie Moga, who snared four coming from the Men’s Artistic Gymnastic’s individual event floor exercise, vault, all-around and team competitions, Francin Ly Coyoca, who came out on top of the girl’s balance beam, Desirei Padilla, who topped the floor exercise and Diane Sophia Navarro, who ruled the all around individual event.
UC’s golden harvest was led by Jan Moses Estrada, who won the secondary boy’s shot put with a distance of 10.23 meters, Joseph Camingao, who topped the 100/110-meter Hurdles with his time of 16.29 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles, which he finished in one minute and 1.88 seconds and Elyzza Mae Salinas, who ruled the girl’s 400-meter hurdles.
Kenneth Robledo also gave UC gold medals in secondary boy’s long jump with a record of 5.79 meters and high jump (1.70 meters) while the other gold winners of UC are Shantel Tanucan (high jump), Jrict Ray Talicug (200 meters) and Rhea Japitan (1,500 meters and 3,000 meters).
