The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Monday began partial operations at the Tacloban airport to allow humanitarian flights to land.
In a statement, the CAAP said the Tacloban Domestic Airport was open to “limited flights to give way to humanitarian missions ferrying relief supplies and equipment.”
The CAAP also said that airports shut down during the typhoon in Roxas City, Caticlan, Legaspi, Iloilo, Romblon, Surigao, Tacloban and Busuanga had reopened.
CAAP Director General William Hotchkiss III said it would take some time before the Tacloban airport could reopen to commercial aircraft as the terminal and critical equipment were destroyed during the typhoon.—Tarra Quismundo
