Veco: Expect power outages starting today

POWER in Metro Cebu and other areas serviced by the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) was 94 percent restored as of 6 p.m. yesterday, the utility firm said.

In an advisory issued via Twitter, Veco said power was fully restored in its biggest service area in Cebu City, barangay Busay, as of 2 p.m. yesterday.

Veco said damage to lateral lines and poles was the cause of power failure in these areas.

But Veco chief operating officer Sebastian Lacson cautioned that rotation brownouts may be in effect today.

In it’s Twitter update, Lacson urged consumers to minimize power consumption until the power feed from Leyte which provides 1/3 of their power is reestablished.

At noon yesterday, power was restored in parts of barangays Banilad, Nivel, Camputhaw, Banawa, Labangon, Ermita, Basak-Pardo, Bulacao, Guadalupe and barangay Luz in Cebu City, barangay Cabancalan and Mandaue City, all of Talisay City and Consolacion town.

The Cebu Electric Cooperative 1 and 3 (Cebeco 1 and Cebeco 3) said they restored power in some parts of their franchise areas, Cebeco manager Engr. Lowell Belciña said.

For Cebeco 2, only a portion of Compostela town, Danao City and Carmen town especially along the highway were energized.

Power restoration is ongoing in Catmon town while Cebeco will start rehabilitation for Bogo City and other northern towns today.
