GlobalPort hires new head coach

The GlobalPort  Batang Pier continued with their massive overhaul as they brought in a new head coach who will be handling a team composed of a  mix of rookie and veteran players.

Richie Ticzon was hired as GlobalPort’s interim coach, replacing Junel Baculi, who handled the Batang Pier for two conferences.

Baculi had a contract with GlobalPort until 2015 but reached an agreement with the squad, paving the way for Ticzon’s entry.

Ticzon earned the moniker “Velvet Touch” for his deadly shooting when he played for Purefoods, Shell, and Alaska.

The former pointguard previously served as an assistant coach at Far Eastern University. He also had stints as an assistant coach for the Energen Pilipinas youth teams.

In the PBA, Ticzon was once an assistant coach of Jong Uichico at the San Miguel Beer. Aside from San Miguel, Ticzon also had stints with the Coca-Cola Tigers as an assistant coach of Binky Favis.

At GlobalPort, Ticzon will be backed up by his deputies Eric Gonzales, Mac Cuan, Bonnie Tan and Glenn Capacio.

GlobalPort will parade several rookies in the coming All Filipino Cup set to open Nov. 17. Leading the Mikee Romero-owned team are Terrence Romeo, RR Garcia, Nico Salva, Justin Chua, LA Revilla, and Jopher Custodio.

The Batang Pier have just signed on  former Most Valuable Player Erik Menk, who will be joining newcomers Enrico Villanueva and Chris Timberlake.   /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
