Whirlwind kills 2 in North Cotabato

KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines—A woman and her son were killed when a tornado struck a village in Pikit, North Cotabato on Thursday afternoon.

Tahira Kalantongan, municipal disaster risk reduction management council officer of Pikit, North Cotabato, identified the fatalities as Bing Guiamalon Ocuman, a resident of Barangay Pamalian in Pikit, and her year-old Datu Puti.

A six-year-old daughter of Ocuman was injured and hospitalized.

Kalantongan said the Ocumans were in their hut when the tornado struck at 5 p.m. Thursday and toppled coconut trees, one of which fell on the Ocumen house.

The boy was killed on the spot while the woman died en route to a hospital.
